In 1948, Wido Schliep, a restorer by trade and an informant for the MCCP, saw a painting by Moreelse in Trittau near Hamburg, Germanywhich came from the Schloss collection and had been stolen from the Führerbau. The painting was at the home of Alfred Bendfeldt or Bandfeldt, in Schönberg, Lauenburg, Post über Trittau Land, north of Hamburg. American investigators tried in vain to interrogate Mr. Bendfeldt but since he lived in the British zone of occupation, they needed the approval of the British MFA&A Section.
