Adrian John Hope was a British collector of Dutch ancestry. He came from a merchant banking family who owned Hope & Co. His father Thomas Hope (1769-1831) was a noted scholar, writer and art collector. Henry Philip Hope (1774-1839), Adrian’s uncle, was known for his famous gem collection, including the Hope diamond and the Hope pearl.
Hope is mentioned in the provenance of the painting Woman feeding her child by Nicolaes Maes. The picture was sold with the rest of his collection at his posthumous sale at Christie’s on 30 June 1894 in London.
