SS-Untersturmführer Hans Leimer was an SS officer, close to Bruno Lohse and the Gestapo as well as the Bony-Lafont gang. A major player in the Nazi-sponsored black market in German-occupied France. He and his mistress, Countess Tchernitcheff, got in trouble repeatedly with German authorities over their black market activities.
Leimer's close relationship with ERR officials and Nazi security agents in Paris may have led to his obtaining privileged information from a member of Kurt von Behr's security detail about the presumed location of the Schloss collection. He relayed this information to Bruno Lohse in the summer of 1942.
