Georges Édouard Warneck was born in Paris. He was a French naval officer**,** an art dealer and collector in Paris.

Warneck married Caroline Febvre. She died in 1904, and her collection was sold in 1905. She was the daughter of the art collector and print publisher Alexis Febvre.

Their daughter, Jeanne Warneck, married Arthur Sambon (1867-1947), a well-known figure in the Paris art world. On 26-27 May 1926, Édouard Warneck’s collection was sold posthumously at Galerie Georges Petit.

Adolphe Schloss owned several paintings from the Warneck collection: Jan Steen’s La danse de mai, scènes de danse dans un village (Schloss German no. 201/ French no. 241), and Portrait de femme by Gerard Terborch (Schloss German no. 214/ French no. 255).
